Awards Ceremony

Chris Cree (Dallas, TX) put on his organizer hat and jumped up front to start the Awards Ceremony a bit before the posted time. Ever funny, Chris said that in past years he'd taken pains to remove his glasses before every photograph, but he really can't see without them anymore, so they were going to stay on. As he said, "that dog don't hunt no more," which drew an audience chuckle from the over 40 set.

Almost all the players stayed for the Awards ceremony which was a quick affair. Assisted by John Chew, Chris handed out five class prizes, high word prizes, and six top prizes. Two round SamBoards were awarded to the biggest upsets in the tournaments, the players who defeated the players with higher ratings. Please look at the prize list.

The winner, Orry Swift (Waco, TX) received $3,000 and took to the microphone like Pete Sampras at a U.S. Open. It was great! He thanked Chris and we all gave him a rousing round of applause.

And then the DO for this year was over and we all milled off to our lives outside of SCRABBLE tournaments.

Chris Cree (Dallas, TX) gathered the staff and Joel Sherman (Bronx, NY) and we met at El Fenix again for queso and event wrap-up stuff. One change for next year? Another game on Friday, so eight games, seven games, and five games for a total in 2010 of 20 games. Even firsts and seconds!

See you then!
