Round 19

Andrew Friedrich (Aurora, CO) got a second crack at Sam Kantimathi (Sacramento, CA) this round, and he wasn't successful this time, either, 284-384. Both players were gone as I happened by, but I saw two bingos: SOLATED and ADONISES.

Michael Early (Fort Worth, TX) vs. Bradley Whitmarsh (Attleboro, MA): CAREERS and TRANSIT.

Joel Sherman (Bronx, NY) vs. Dave Wiegand (Portland, OR). It wasn't a great game for Joel despite his second and third plays. He opened with YO for 10 points and then played NAuPLII and pIXIEISH through an I. He says the game was over for him after that as he pulled consonant after consonant. After this 147-point lead, Dave came back with FAINTER and NEATENS and a whole lot more and won their game.

Geoff Thevenot (Austin, TX) managed to get gODLINGS down for 68, but it was a show by Mark Kenas (Madison, WI): HAMSTERS for 89, RAVeNOUS for 74, and ETERNISE for 79. Mark won.

The DO champion has been determined: Orry Swift (Waco, TX) defeated Marty Gabriel (Charleston, IL), 414-297. Dee Segrest, Orry's annotator, said that it was an outstanding final game. She thought that Orry had horrible racks, but he kept coming up with all these points from them. See that game in the annotated section.

Chris Cree (Dallas, TX) complains that Rob Robinsky (Minneapolis, MN) cost him $1,000. As I press on, I realize that he "cost" Chris this amount by outplaying him. Specifically, SONATINE through A for 122 points. HARDIES and CRENATE were also played in that game. 487-401, Rob's win.

We had to wait a bit for the awards ceremony because one game result slip didn't get turned in, but once it was, we hit the ground running.
