Round 3

EUSOCIAL catches my eye on a Glenda Short (Oklahoma City, OK) vs. Peggy Altazan (Zachary, LA) board.

Joey Krafchick (Roswell, GA) is demoralized. He just challenged NOSEDOVE and it is good.

Close game wrapping up between Sam Kantimathi (El Dorado Hills, CA) and John Luebkemann (Bear, DE). The latter won, 386-376. I see ?RAISED, ERRATIC and GUILTIEr and overhear John say, "I didn't want a 'Sam' game, I wanted an open board," as he pointed to an opening he'd made.

Wayne Clifford (Calgary AB) vs. Peter Armstrong (Milwaukee, WI). On their board, I spy CANITIES, SpLENDOR, eTERNAL, and TAURINES.

Paul Holser (Wylie, TX) vs. George Viebranz (Strongsville, OH): SANTERO, ENDiNGS, and AUTOcOID.

Sheri Justice (Kansas City, MO) vs. Pat Sanchez (Dallas, TX). Pat's rack grabs my attention: ROCKERU. This and her sparkling silver jewelry! I see GIbLETS and THOrNIER on their board.

Kevin Leeds (Atlanta, TX) vs. Ben Withers (Houston, TX). This is the second time I've wandered by a Ben game and his tiny laptop has been lying flat on the floor. So, for the second time, fearing I'd step on it, I leaned it up against his gear bag. I see Kevin's ENrOBING for 61 and ZOUAVES for 103 (nice!). Ben played SEMOLINA for 64, THEWIEsT for 76, and TWIRLING for 78. Of this latter bingo, Ben confided it was the winning play for him in that game.

Joel Sherman (Bronx, NY) defeated Terry Kang Rau (Newington, CT) this round, 436-280. I walked by the game as they were amidst an endgame deconstruction. I tried to catch a thing or two from her, but she was muttering about how she got the Ss late and couldn't do a thing with them. She kept starting sentences in the middle and stammering, but I think I heard her call him a "luckbox."

Jim Hughes (Austin, TX), who lent Annette Bailey (Town Withheld, CT) a shirt to wear today, comes up to my table to let me know that he's squaring off against Annette this round. He thinks they'll make a side wager for who gets to keep his shirt.

As we look over our numbers, we lost about 15 players to the weather, but still, we have people from 31 states and 2 Canadian provinces here. Quite a turnout!
