Round 12

I'm sure John will put this game somewhere on the site, but for now, suffice it to say that we have a new highest loser winner. Stefan Rau (Newington, CT) manged to lose a game to Keith Smith (Austin, TX), 552-582. As the person who maintains all the SCRABBLE records and facts, this, I'm sure, was a thrill for Keith! The only thing that taints this record and this game is the fact that Stefan got away with three phoney bingo plays. In his defense, Keith maintains that two of them made triple-triple openings for him and one was at the endgame and if it had been good, he could have possibly lost the game if he challenged.

K. ANTHERID 98 S. REMANANT* 72 K. LORINERS 113 S. ADNATION 80 S. OPERCULI* 78 K. OUTLIER 68 S. GASEFIES* 80 K. ATOMIES 88 S. CULOTTES 64

These were the game's bingos!

Michael Early (Fort Worth, TX) tells me that in his game with Mike Baron (Corrales, NM), the New Mexico Mike got down POETIZES and got away with CHRONO* for 50. Texas Mike tried ALBYSSUM* and INTAGLIA*, both challenged off. But he did manage to bingo out with RESILIENT for 70. New Mexico Mike's win, 403-349.

Terry Kang Rau (Newington, CT) warned us to watch out for her plunging neckline today as she was going to gussy up for today's games. When she came in this morning, she had on a boat neck shirt. I complimented her on the nautical theme, but noted the no plunge and she laughed and said that all she's done since she got here is eat and her nice little outfit just wasn't fitting her today. So, Texas food made her unable to fit into her clothes! She also made a request. She she left her name badge at one of the finer eating establishments, could we make her a new one that says "dumbass?" She isn't sure she's been playing up to her potential so far at the DO and instead of making hay when the sun shines, her opponents are vexing her by not playing sensibily. Sometimes the game can just get us down. In a fit of desperation, Terry admits to trying BADOEMS*, which her opponent smartly challenged off. Terry has seen 5 blanks thus far... ouch!

I swing by table 1 and find Mike Baron (Corrales, NM) discussing his loss. He went over on time a smidge, but he claims that wasn't what did him in. He was losing way before that! Congrats to Amit Chakrabarti (Hanover, NH) for his 419-389 win.

Lunch time on a sunny day: yeah!
